What is a basecamp? A voicemail message for you:
Things in my basecamp:
Art: Every time I feel stuck or stumble into writer’s block, I look to his vibrant work to retrieve a story from my internal universe. His work is innately narrative & prompts my own tales to come forth.
Andrew Hem Instagram: @andrewhem
Music: The Rachels
The soundtrack of my life unfolding in a film about redemption & reclamation. I am the main character discovering how to stop quantum jumping into the best version of myself and choose the one timeline where I find great love- 1st with myself then with many others.
Poetry: Mary Oliver lines from “Black Water Woods”
Amazing how words can hum into a thunder bolt of inspiration to wake you up from complacency. I wish I could tattoo this somewhere I could read it daily. Maybe 3x a day to keep my nerve up.
”To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.”
The woods, the prairie, and the lake, with my sketchbook is my basecamp.
I wasn't thinking of them as such but I knew that I needed a daily connection to the land. I guess that could be considered basecamp.
